Poetry on a Tuesday

Mindful

Everyday

I see or hear

something

that more or less

kills me

with delight,

that leaves me

like a needle

in the haystack

of light.

It was what I was born for —

to look, to listen,

to lose myself

inside this soft world —

to instruct myself

over and over

in joy,

and acclamation.

Nor am I talking

about the exceptional,

the fearful, the dreadful,

the very extravagant —

but of the ordinary,

the common, the very drab,

the daily presentations.

Oh, good scholar,

I say to myself,

how can you help

but grow wise

with such teachings

as these —

the untrimmable light

of the world,

the ocean's shine,

the prayers that are made

out of grass?

  1. Hi Jo, so glad you will share more of these poems!! I had the same thoughts before I got to the end and then saw yours. This is how I felt this morning about the sky and sunrise and seeing the snow AGAIN. God brings me out to it and shows the beauty in the small everyday things, he stops me in my tracks and reminds me to go slow and look/listen so I won't miss these things that overfill my heart with joy and love and am soooo thankful for all he's given to me and to us. I love that I can walk this same path daily over and over but each time is different.
This one is close to my heart too, THANK YOU JO!!!

  2. I am so grateful that God opened my eyes to His beauty. I have always loved nature but since having my eyes really opened I see so much more now. Dawn I am happy to know you are seeing God's beauty too. We are so loved aren't we?? Jo xx
